Cursor vs Windsurf: the latter is now Devin Desktop, and the question has changed
Searching 'Cursor vs Windsurf' in 2026 leads to an outdated comparison: Windsurf changed names through an automatic update in June 2026, and its old pricing page redirects. What remains to compare, and what neither does for you.
Comparing Cursor and Windsurf now means Cursor and Devin Desktop: the tool born at Codeium and acquired by Cognition has carried that name since June 2, 2026, changed automatically. Checked September 2, 2026, Windsurf's pricing page redirects to Devin's.
What changed beneath the name
The publisher did not disappear: according to a specialist article dated June 5, 2026, no dated official post announces the rename, only the pricing redirect confirms it, the change moved editing behind an agent-focused home screen without removing coding capabilities. Your tool changed name and centre of gravity overnight without your request. That is the comparison's real issue beyond features, illustrated in your tool can lose its engine overnight.
What Cursor does better than Maestro
Cursor is a code editor where AI completes, modifies, and reorganises multiple files. For a surgical three-character change in one file, it beats any method: opening an existing project takes ten seconds, and changes are reviewed on screen line by line. Pro shows $20 monthly officially. Maestro controls Cursor alongside Claude Code, Codex, and Mistral Vibe: it is both a component and competitor, and on this precise ground we have no counterargument.
What Devin Desktop does better
The local workstation now commands a remote agent working independently on a task and returning a pull request. For mature enterprise software with a capable reviewing team, delegating a queue of well-described tickets overnight is defensible. You also retain a full editor, extensions, and shortcuts. We do not control Devin Desktop, and Maestro handles one thing at a time with you in the loop: it loses on delegated volume.
Prices that cannot sit side by side
Cursor publishes Pro at $20 monthly while leaving other tiers unpriced on its page; higher-plan figures come from secondary sources. Devin's official pricing page failed three attempts on September 2, 2026, and two secondary sources contradict each other. We therefore publish no Devin price. Remember the method rather than the number: a price read by one robot on a selector-based page can be wrong, and we verified that it was.
What neither gives you
Both assume you read code. Neither writes a specification before coding, requires tests before code, or asks document approval before work starts: the only gate is change review at the end. For developers that is right. For an owner having a tool built without reading files, the gate comes too late. We detail this division in our comparison and Claude Code or Cursor for a non-developer.
Choose without being moved
Three checks before settling into a tool: can you read its output, leave with your work tomorrow morning, and know what happens if the publisher is acquired? First, Cursor and Devin Desktop require developer skills. Second, both leave ordinary local files, good news deserving mention. Third, June 2 answered for everyone; if you cannot leave, you are not the owner.
