FlutterFlow or Bubble in 2026: one exports code from $39, the other keeps everything

FlutterFlow or Bubble: the comparison depends little on features and heavily on the exit. One lets you download application code from its first paid tier. The other's documentation says leaving is impossible.

FlutterFlow or Bubble: the former permits code download from Basic at $39 monthly; the latter permits none. Bubble documentation states: 'migration of your app away from Bubble's hosting is not possible' (Bubble manual, consulted September 2, 2026). Both pricing pages were read that day.

What each tier buys

FlutterFlow's free plan caps at two projects, ten credits, and five lifetime AI requests. Basic, displayed at $39 monthly, unlocks unlimited projects, code and Android APK downloads, custom domains, and store submission. Growth at $80 for the first seat and Business at $150 add collaboration, branches, and tightly rationed automated tests: one per project on Growth, up to three on Business. Bubble displays Starter at $59 monthly billed annually on web and mobile, then Growth at $209 and Team at $549. We could not record monthly Bubble pricing because its selector required a browser, so do not cite it.

What FlutterFlow does better than Maestro

It builds native mobile applications for App Store and Google Play with animations, navigation, identical iOS and Android rendering, device preview, and store screenshot generation. FlutterFlow produces standard Flutter code in Dart that a Flutter developer can take over. We do not compete here: Maestro returns code someone must publish. If the project is a downloadable application, start there rather than with us, first reading what mobile tools do and what remains missing.

What Bubble does better than Maestro

It provides an online multi-user application with accounts, roles, relational database, and payments, maintained by one person without a server or desire to administer one. Hosting, database, authentication, and domain share one subscription, and its agent has built native mobile applications since August 4, 2026. We provide nothing comparable. The tradeoff is in the documentation above and its billing unit: workload units consumed per request and page load, with alerts at 75% and 100% and optional overage blocking. The page we read did not price an additional thousand units.

Code leaves, but does not return

Read FlutterFlow export carefully before calling it total freedom. The editor remains authoritative, rewriting its produced copy on every publication, so manual changes must live in a separate copy someone merges. You can leave with the Flutter project and maintain it manually, but cannot return. The lock is practical rather than legal or technical. Bubble applications are configurations interpreted by an engine existing only there: the application stops when the subscription stops. We detailed both locks in Bubble or Lovable.

Both take engines rather than method

Since July 27, 2026, FlutterFlow runs Claude Code and Codex in its desktop application, allowing model and reasoning choices per message (FlutterFlow changelog). They are the assistants Maestro controls, and choosing between them should be a setting. Neither tool produces the document stating what software must do before it is written. FlutterFlow counts tests per project and writes them afterward; Bubble offers none. Neither asks you to review a specification or approve a step before the next. That is the market gap we occupy, with our repeated limitation: you own the code, but someone must put it online.

Decide in an evening

First write what the product will be in three years: a phone download or an online service people sign into. That word eliminates one of the two. Then ask whether someone in or around your organisation can take over a Flutter project and republish it. If yes, FlutterFlow's export is worth $39. If no, it buys freedom nobody will exercise, and Bubble is less tiring if you accept a subscription lasting as long as the product.
